David’s fish images have become familiar to most British anglers through their use on the current credit card style rod licence and the Environment Agency’s advertising campaigns.
They have also featured in a number of coarse and game fishing magazines and been used on the front covers of several angling publications.
David’s obsession with fish began in childhood and he was a keen angler for many years, both coarse and game, before swapping his rod for a mask and snorkel and pursuing his quarry underwater, eventually adding a camera to his kit.
He has dived and snorkelled in a growing list of British rivers including the Spey, Aberdeenshire Dee, Towy, Teifi, Wye, Severn and a host of smaller tributaries. He also dives gravel pits where the sometimes crystal-clear waters allow a fascinating insight into the fishes’ world. You can read more about his adventures by clicking on the DIVING tab at the top of the page.
He now lives in West Wales close to the Pembrokeshire coast, and in the summer months frequently dives in search of his favourite marine species, the sea bass.
All these observations constantly fire the imagination and when David works in the studio he tries to capture the essence of his experiences with oil on canvas. Many of these works, both past and present, as well as David’s observations on fishing, diving painting, can be seen in his richly illustrated book “Beneath the Surface” published by the Langford Press.
His work sells in galleries throughout the UK and from his on-line gallery. He also has a growing international reputation, selling work both in Europe and the US.
David is equally passionate about birds and spends much of the winter on the Taf and Cleddau Estuaries where he has a series of hides that he uses to get close to wildfowl and waders. In the summer months he visits local sea-bird colonies, favourites being Skomer Island, Great Saltee and Stack Rock.
We moved to West Wales in 2002 after a year spent in Hampshire and haven’t looked back since.
Our daughter is due to take up a place at Sheffield University to study Russian, whilst our son attends the local secondary school. He is currently practicing very hard to become the next rock guitar sensation!
We spend our summers on and around the local beaches such as Pendine, Saundersfoot and Amroth, and visiting the wonderful Pembrokeshire Islands.
My wife Lisa is also an artist and you can see her work at:
She is my right-hand woman and deals with all things technical such as this web site, as well as the less glamorous business pursuits of book-keeping, stock control, printing and packaging of orders. She also organises my exhibitions and events each year.
In her spare time she manages to take good care of me and the kids!
